BROWNSBERG Located at approximately 130 km south of Paramaribo, North West of the Van Blommenstein lake, lies the more or less 6000 ha large Brownsberg Nature park. Brownsberg gets its name from John Brown, a well known gold digger at the end of the 19th century. From the 500 meters high plateau of the Brownsberg Mountain there are gorgeous views of the Brokopondo Lake and the vast forests. The mountain is “sliced through” by creeks which discharge themselves into waterfalls, accessible by hiking trails through the tropical jungle. Tour: 1 day/ 2 days Price: € 65,- p.p. / € 125,- p.p Transportation: Bus Itinerary: You will depart from Paramaribo for your trip to Brownsberg. After a bus ride of about 3 hours you will arrive at the Mazaroni plateau, located at a height of approximately 500m. From this spot you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest all around you. Hiking trails through the forest lead you towards the beautiful Leo- and / or Irene waterfalls. The hearty hike which takes you variably downhill and uphill is rewarded with nature’s wonderful massage under one of the waterfalls which also provide you with an invigorating cool off. You return to the plateau where a delicious lunch awaits you after which you can relax and enjoy the sounds of nature on the mountain and the spectacular view of the Brokopondo Lake and vast forest. At the end of the afternoon you commence the return trip to Paramaribo.
