‘UPPER’ SURINAME The maroon villages upstream of the Suriname River are located south of the Brokopondo Lake. Slightly south of the lake lies Atyoni, the southernmost spot in Suriname accessible by road.The fun and charming culture of the Sarmacca people, relaxing in one of the rapids of the area, the delicious food, interesting nature, comfortable hammocks all make your tour complete.

After a bus ride over the adventurous bauxite road you arrive at Atyoni (the port to the interior). Here you are transferred into a boat and after traveling for a little while you arrive at one of the islands in the upstream area of the Suriname River. You are introduced to the surroundings and are invited to enjoy a delicious lunch and afterwards a refreshing dive in the river.Subsequently you can enjoy the day as you please with maybe even an adventurous cayman trip. Day 2
After breakfast you are taken on a walk through the forest. You are introduced to the medicinal plants and the animals of the area. When you return lunch is served. After a nap and maybe a dive in the river you are taken by boat on a tour to different villages in the area where you will be able to witness the lifestyle of the Sarramaccan people.After dinner you will enjoy an evening with cultural entertainment provided by the local population. Day 3
After breakfast you can fish, swim, relax in a hammock or peddle around in a canoe. After lunch you start your trip back to Paramaribo.
NOTE: on a 4 day tour, you will leave after breakfast on day 3 for the second island where you will then spend the night. On day 4 you start the return trip to Paramaribo after lunch. Included:
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and juice or flavored drinks during those meals. Coffee and tea are available the whole day.
