Colorful in culture, colorful in nature, colorful in tradition, colorful in religion.Suriname, “The beating heart of the Amazon”, is covered, for at least 80%, with untouched tropical rainforest. Suriname with as its’ neighboring country’s French Guyana, Brazil and Guyana and the Atlantic Ocean to its North, is the only Dutch speaking country in South America.
Up until 1975 Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands. With her independence on November 25th of 1975, the country became a democratic Republic. Currently heading the Republic of Suriname is the President Mr. Desire Delano Bouterse.
