Anaula Nature Resort, Suriname's newest resort invites you to an unforgettable nature - and culture experience. The resort is located on the banks of a beautiful island in the upper part of the Suriname River, right at the end of the Ferulassi rapids. This is a comfortable and unique resort in the virginal Amazon Rainforest of Suriname where turbulent rapids, beautiful flora and fauna, idyllic beach islands and the fascinating Maroon culture, allow you experience the unexpected.

At Paranam the road changes from asphalt to bauxite, and gradually the impressive giant trees of the forest and maroon villages appear. After traveling a distance of about 190 km you arrive at Atjoni from where you will continue your trip by canoe. Within 45 minutes this motorized boat ride will take you to the comfortable Anaula Nature Resort located near the end of the Ferulassi rapids, where you will spend the night. During the boat ride you will encounter breathtaking nature and several Maroon villages where waving children and women doing their laundry can be seen on the riverbanks. You will also pass the turbulent Jaw Jaw rapids.After “checking in” you will be given the opportunity to explore the resort. After dinner the guide will give information on the area and tell you about the ways of the Saramacca culture. Day 2 In the morning you may fish, swim or recline in hammock by the river and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and view from the island. After lunch there will be a walk in the forest on the island. During this walk you will receive information about the local medicinal use of some of the plants you may encounter. During the war in the interior (binnenlandse oorlog) in 1986 the jungle commando’s of Ronnie Brunswijk used to visit the island for their “immortality rituals”.After your walk, you will be taken by canoe, to an uninhabited island in the Ferulassi rapids with a beautiful sand beach where you can swim and relax. After dinner there is a suspenseful activity in store for you: A Caiman (type of alligator) excursion. During this nightly excursion you will also be able to admire the beautiful star-spangled sky and experience the peaceful silence of the Amazon rainforest. Day 3 After breakfast you leave for the village of Nieuw Aurora by canoe. During a guided tour through the village you will be introduced to the unique way of life of the local population and to the wonderful traditions brought from Africa by their ancestors. You will visit the missionary post with among other things a church, a school and a medical post.From Nieuw Aurora you will walk, past cultivation fields with plants and crops of the local population, to the nearby village of Gunsi where the canoe awaits. After dinner you can enjoy a traditional and cultural dance performance. Traditional dances such as the Seketi, Awasa and Bandamba will be performed by the local population. Your guide will explain the cultural significance of each dance. (The cultural dance performance can be subject to change). Day 4 The morning of this day can be spent as you please. You can peddle or kayak, swim, take a walk through the forest, relax in the lounge or a hammock and just enjoy the surrounding nature.After lunch we start the boat ride back to Atjoni, from where the bus will take you to Paramaribo. Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and juice or flavored drinks during these meals. Coffee and tea are available all day long. A well trained guide who speaks Dutch as well as English and oftentimes also originates from the Surinamese interior.
