Galibi Sea turtle Resort
GALIBI

The traditional Indian villages of Christiaankondre en Langamankondre, located close to the estuary of the Marowijne River, together form the area better known as Galibi. These Indian villages with a population of approximately 750 inhabitants originated here after the abolition of slavery. The traditional culture is very important to the villagers and is therefore carefully preserved. Agriculture in the area is primarily focused on cassava and pineapple and the traditional crafts of ceramics and weaving are still important sources of income. Galibi is best known for the giant sea turtles that use the beaches for nesting. From February until August trips can be made to Galibi for viewing of the sea turtles as they come in from the sea and lay their eggs on the beach.
